In the Valley, I will lift my Eyes

Children of the Most High God,

Happy new month! The second half of the year has kicked off in full swing and personally, I am still wondering where June went to.

This morning, I superseded a 36-hour water-only fast by two hours, so I hit 38 hours, and I did so quite effortlessly I must add. Last month, I completed a 96-hour water-only fast and I felt incredible.

In her book, The Measure of My Days, playwright and author Florida Scott-Maxwell writes that, “Life does not accommodate you, it shatters you. It’s meant to, and it couldn’t do it better. Every seed destroys its container or else there would be no fruition.”

When I read that quote during my morning devotion, I knew I had to write about it; rather, the Holy Spirit impressed it upon me to write about it.

January 2025 started off with so much promise, light and uplifting. I had crossed the new year with both parents alive and healthy and I had a sparkling new opportunity waiting for me. After what was a rather tumultuous last half of 2024 (for me that is), the year 2025 felt like it was my season of rest.

As I was a busy imagining a year of skipping in a garden frolicking with butterflies as I smell the flowers along my way, God had different agendas…

February was nice and easy and I was breathing a sigh of relief as I kept my hope alive. March was another month of reprieve and everything was fine and dandy .. or so I thought.

Now, let the shattering begin!

Given that I cannot divulge details given the sensitivity of the matter, the analogy of David works perfectly in my case. Once again, I take this chance to reiterate how big of a David fan I am.

In my previous article, I mentioned how David was playing the harp when Saul threw a javelin at him twice but missed – remember that part? Now let us proceed to the next scene. David fled from Saul but Saul kept pursuing him and at some point, Saul had gotten to the cave where David had hid himself.

After Saul returned from fighting the Philistines, he was told that David had gone into the wilderness of En-gedi. So Saul chose 3,000 elite troops from all Israel and went to search for David and his men near the rocks of the wild goats.

At the place where the road passes some sheepfolds, Saul went into a cave to relieve himself. But as it happened, David and his men were hiding farther back in that very cave!

1 Samuel 24: 1-3 NLT

However, in this scenario, David was at an advantage and he could easily have killed Saul but he chose not to, he did something else instead:

……So David crept forward and cut off a piece of the hem of Saul’s robe.

1 Samuel 24: 4 NLT

Last year, I was at a vantage point where I could have “killed Saul” but I chose not to, I cut off the hem of his robe instead – figuratively speaking. Once again, in order for you to follow this story, you ought to read the first part so that you are not left puzzled.

I demonstrated good faith and akin to David, this was my response to this corporate “Saul”…

David came out and shouted after him, “My lord the king!” And when Saul looked around, David bowed low before him.

Then he shouted to Saul, “Why do you listen to the people who say I am trying to harm you? This very day you can see with your own eyes it isn’t true. For the Lord placed you at my mercy back there in the cave. Some of my men told me to kill you, but I spared you. For I said, ‘I will never harm the king—he is the Lord’s anointed one.’ Look, my father, at what I have in my hand. It is a piece of the hem of your robe! I cut it off, but I didn’t kill you. This proves that I am not trying to harm you and that I have not sinned against you, even though you have been hunting for me to kill me.

1 Samuel 24: 8-11 NLT

I have boldened the parts that apply quite accurately to my situation. Those corporate ninjas were baying for my blood I kid you not. I was wondering why a whole international team was out for me! Just as David asked Saul, “Who is the king of Israel trying to catch anyway?” (1 Samuel 24: 14 NLT)

The ending of 1 Samuel chapter 24 would have the reader thinking that after David’s gesture, Saul reciprocated with kindness and they lived happily ever after.

When David had finished speaking, Saul called back, “Is that really you, my son David?” Then he began to cry. And he said to David, “You are a better man than I am, for you have repaid me good for evil. Yes, you have been amazingly kind to me today, for when the Lord put me in a place where you could have killed me, you didn’t do it. Who else would let his enemy get away when he had him in his power? May the Lord reward you well for the kindness you have shown me today. And now I realize that you are surely going to be king, and that the kingdom of Israel will flourish under your rule. Now swear to me by the Lord that when that happens you will not kill my family and destroy my line of descendants!”

So David promised this to Saul with an oath. Then Saul went home, but David and his men went back to their stronghold.

1 Samuel 24: 16-22 NLT

Children of God, when you continue reading the story and get to chapter 26, you will find out that Saul did the exact opposite, that instead of letting little David go after he SPARED HIS LIFE, he pursued him… again!

Now some men from Ziph came to Saul at Gibeah to tell him, “David is hiding on the hill of Hakilah, which overlooks Jeshimon.” So Saul took 3,000 of Israel’s elite troops and went to hunt him down in the wilderness of Ziph.

1 Samuel 26: 1-2 NLT

Seriously Saul?

It’s rather uncanny how that portion of David’s story is synchronous to my life at the moment, because Children of God, Saul pursued me!

I read Psalms 56 that David wrote when he had been captured by the Philistines in Gath as he was feeling Saul (rolls eyes) and I could relate deeply with him. Let’s start with this:

I am constantly hounded by those who slander me, and many are boldly attacking me.
But when I am afraid,
I will put my trust in you.

Psalms 56: 2-3 NLT

I was (and still am being) slandered, I was attacked; but readers, my God is with me. Just as Florida Scott-Maxwell wrote that, “Life does not accommodate you, it shatters you…” I am being SHATTERED pro max.. Loh!

However, the shattering is an imperative in this process. Jesus tells us that in order for a seed to bring forth more of its kind, there is a sort of shattering that needs to happen.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.”
‭‭John‬ ‭12‬:‭24‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I like how the amplified version has given a little more context…

“I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone [just one grain, never more]. But if it dies, it produces much grain and yields a harvest.”
‭‭John‬ ‭12‬:‭24‬ ‭AMP‬‬

God is at work in me. That never stopped. In ALL things, we give thanks and remember that everything, every single thing, is working for my good.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them

Romans 8:28 NLT

I am encouraged by this:

“I cry out to God Most High, to God, who vindicates me. He sends from heaven and saves me, rebuking those who hotly pursue me— God sends forth his love and his faithfulness.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭57‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God will take care of those hotly pursuing me (hehehe 😛 ) but meanwhile, his love and faithfulness continues to surround me.

Now, I would like to pray for you and with you, that you may be strengthened in the Lord in whichever season you are in at the moment. Is it a “shattering” you are going through? Repeat this simple prayer below:

Dear Lord, may I embrace the shattering hope You offer in my days, that I might see You reproduce more of You and Your desires in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you have gotten this far in this article and are not yet born again, take a look at the verse below:

You are some of those who have been chosen to belong to Jesus Christ.

Romans 1:6 ERV

God had handpicked you to be born again today, do you believe that? Do you know that it is not by chance that you have come across this article and have chosen to read till the end? So my clarion call to you is to heed to the tugging of the Holy Spirit in your heart to give your life to Christ. Please repeat the prayer below out loud:

Dear Lord,

Thank You for dying on the cross for me. I believe in my heart that you died and rose again and I confess with my mouth that You are Lord and Saviour in my heart and in my life. I denounce my former ways and choose to be Your child. Thank You for setting me free. I am now born again.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Congratulations for making that bold step! Jesus loves you so much! Well, as you have read, life may not be easy but God will never leave you nor forsake you. He is working in us, for His glory. Remain yielded to His guidance.

“…In this world you will have troubles. But be brave! I have defeated the world!”

John 16:33 ERV

“…You can be sure that I will be with you always. I will continue with you until the end of time.”

Matthew 28:20 ERV

Blessed be the name of the Lord.

XO,

That Lady
