Beyond the Horizon

Ninjas of the Lord,

Children of the Most High,

How art thou?

It is the last day of October 2024 and mehn, this month has flown by!

I was in Italy for technically the whole of October, returning to Nairobi yesterday, 30th October 2024. I have had quite an adventure I tell you! From missing the first leg of my return flight to Nairobi to catching a train and a bus to Southern Italy relying solely on memory and having the most fun with people I had just met and the list goes on.

I had pizza with a Cuban – who ended up winning an award for film he did on bees. I had no idea who he was. We were sharing about where we were from and he spoke so passionately about his home country, Cuba. He encouraged me to visit there. He told me of how warm his people are. He lives in Scotland but he frequents Cuba every so often and wishes that the situation would be different economically for his people. Two days after our conversation, I was attending a Film Festival Award Ceremony and he was called up on stage to receive an award! When I saw him, I was like:

Sporadic fun is the name of the game. I had a walk till 1:00am with a Dutch man named Bas, sang karaoke with an Australian lady called McLay, got invited to a birthday party by an Ecuadorian lady named Chaca (we shared a pizza too – prosciutto flavor) and her friends from Latin America – one from Colombia, another from Peru, one from Argentina and another from Chile. Did I mention this amazing Turkish lady called Hazal? I guess I did not. Would my list be complete without mentioning my amazing Nigerians? Nope. I got to eat egusi, plantain, jollof rice, eba and catfish pepper soup in the heart of Rome. Who would figure?

In case you are in Rome and you want to eat Nigerian food, here you go.

Afrik Cavour was like the holy grail of Nigerian food. The food was so delish! I went there about four times with different people. It had me thinking how the Nigerians must love their cuisine. Nigerians are fun though. I think people are generally fun. I met this person at the hotel lobby and was like, “you wanna take a walk?” He nodded. Can I remember his name? Oh yes! Nnaemeka. 🙂

I was introduced to “rain-watching” by an amazing soul from Ghana, his name is Marfo. I think he made that term up but hey, it was raining that night so why not watch it over some dessert? Speaking of which, he introduced me to the yummiest coffee creme something something that we had in the middle of the night. He also introduced me to Ginseng, a drink I enjoyed to bits. Italy was a true culinary indulgence for me. I would like to believe these calories do not count, right?

Calories do not count when having a good time.

Central Italy was only a foretaste (pun intended) of the culinary indulgence I would have in Southern Italy! The home of pizza. The home of pasta. I ate things I could not pronounce well, like pecce and <insert name of Southern Italian dish>. I got to enjoy seafood from the Southern coast… so yum! It was Japanese cuisine.

A sea of seafood

I had so much gelato that had me wondering who would burn those calories thereafter. It was yummy though! La dolce vita!

This life is for living I tell you! Haha! I was with my good buddy G-Boss alias Bella Vita.

This was the dark chocolate Lindt flavor and the second scoop was coffee.

I met people from all over the globe; Canada, USA, Brazil, Senegal, South Africa, Tunisia… each with their own story. I will need sequels upon sequels to narrate my month in Italy.

This was part of a five course dinner I had at a Michelin star restaurant.

I am thankful for the month. October, the tenth month of year gets a ten over ten from me! God showed me a good sorry, a great time in Italy. My start of the year was quite something and I believe God is wiping my tears. Remember the legal tussle with the corporate giant? Then my beloved grandma passing away at the height of the corporate distress, amongst a host of other trials… Whew! In all things, I give thanks.

Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved.

Psalms 30:5-7 KJV

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

James 1:2-4 NIV

I will unpack my #RoadToRome and more of my adventures in Italy in the sequels. Today’s post is about giving thanks and sharing my testimony for the glory of God.

They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

Revelation 12:11 NIV

For now, I am going off gluten. No more bread for me! The amount of pizza, pasta, pecce, focaccia and pastries I have had is unfathomable!

However, if you are not born again and would like Jesus Christ, the Bread of Life, to be your Lord and Saviour, please repeat this prayer below out loud:

Dear Lord,

Thank You for dying on the cross for me. I believe in my heart that you died and rose again and I confess with my mouth that You are Lord and Saviour in my heart and in my life. I denounce my former ways and choose to be Your child. Thank You for setting me free. I am now born again. In Jesus’ Name, Amen

I am listening to the Konpa version of Yeshua – which I like – and thought you might like it too. Here’s the link: https://youtu.be/wmz-8oo0wEw?si=kf6kiJAl_W1BLKrj Let me know what you think of it.

God loves you so much!

Ciao!

XO,

That Lady.
