The Renaissance

What’s cracking good people?

Are you feeling alright? Have you been elevated by the Spirit of the Lord?

I am just from having cereal for lunch but that is what Sunday afternoons are for; right? 😀 That is in addition to planning for the week and writing blog posts. 🙂 I beguiled myself that I would cook but upon getting home but then again…

Today’s 13th 🙂 I have an inexplicable “thing” for odd numbers. My top faves being 7, 17, 37, and 57. Initially, I intended to publish this post on 7th August but my pal Virra shared this funny commentary of the #MontgomeryBrawl that left me in stitches of laugher! The language is quite ‘colorful’ but hilarious all in all.😂😂 I ended up laughing the night away and bookmarked my blog writing to a later date – which is today. That altercation was too epic for me not to mention it in my blog; so thank you Virra for inadvertently giving me more content for today’s article.

The folding chair was nicknamed the “Chair of Justice” … LOL!

I am a huge history buff; especially when it comes to Black History. Last year, I ingested a lot of content on the Civil Rights Movement. You can read my commentary on one of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s memoirs called Why We Can’t Wait. It remains my favorite read to date. Dr. King was a man of faith and a man of action. He is the perfect personification of what James wrote about in his eponymous epistle.

14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?
17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

James 2:14,17,22,26 NKJV

In addition to his famous “I have a dream” speech; Dr. King also made a pivotal comment in regard to putting faith into action when it came to the civil rights movement.

Faith is taking the first step even when you can’t see the whole stair case.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. King was assassinated at a tender age of 39 years and by that time, the guy had achieved so much! PS: He already had 4 kids by that time. Bro was quick!

Dr. King reminds me of Jesus Christ; who, by the time he was crucified at the age of 33, He had done so much that not enough books in the whole world could ever document everything that He did on earth.

And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.

John 21:25 NKJV

When watching the now viral clip of the #MontgomeryBrawl, I couldn’t help but liken some of the folks to Biblical characters. The darling of the internet and hero of the day is famously nicknamed Black Aquamayne [in case you are wondering about the spellingno, it is not a typo. The “mayne” connotes the way Black Americans would pronounce it. Also, that is how it is spelt in this context]. Others have shortened it to Blaquaman/Blaquamayne; a portmanteau of Black and Aquamayne.

Blaquaman in full splendor

Blaquaman is recorded as the first man in history to ever swim to a fight! Call him a navy seal. Heheehe! People come up with the craziest things on the internet.

“I have enough crazy people without your bringing another one here….”

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭21‬:‭15‬ ‭CEV

Blaquaman did not only swim to the fight, but he delivered some serious blows upon the opponent and delivered a very well executed rock bottom move that wrestling watchers can relate to.

The Rock Bottom move by The Rock himself. Blaquaman executed this lethal move in real life.

It goes without saying that Blaquaman is my David-equivalent. First, let us look at the bravery of the this young man. He swam to the fight while fully clothed – so this was no small feat in itself, took on someone twice his size and turned him upside down quite literally… #RockBottom. The Spirit of the Lord was definitely upon this guy. Isn’t this an uncannily similar scenario to David taking on Goliath?

So it was, when the Philistine arose and came and drew near to meet David, that David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

Therefore David ran and stood over the Philistine, took his sword and drew it out of its sheath and killed him, and cut off his head with it.

1 Samuel 17: 48, 51 NKJV

Also, both Blaquaman and David were mere teenagers when they took on their respective giants.

And when the Philistine looked about and saw David, he disdained him; for he was only a youth, ruddy and good-looking.

1 Samuel 17:42 NKJV

Another similarity is that Blaquaman is quite easy on the eyes if I do say so myself; and once again, he is giving off David vibes because my Bible tells me that David was handsome.

So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes.

1 Samuel 16:12 NLT

Before moving on to the agenda of the article, I have to give a shoutout to “Uncle Jessie with the chair”. He is the perfect example of opportunity meeting preparation; because the way he swung that chair was as though he had been training all his life for that very moment.

“…Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

Esther 4:14 NKJV
Meme makers really need more recognition … This is hilarious!
Uncle Jessie will be etched in the books of history.

Onto the topic of discussion today. Renaissance.

Renaissance is French for rebirth. It is also described as a revival of or renewed interest in something; a reawakening.

We are eight months into the year and time seems to have flown by so fast. I was reflecting on how my mental health has improved. Last year was a tough one for me all around but this far, the Lord has brought me.

As God grows us, He takes us through different seasons. Each season has its unique environment and the people who are meant to be there for a reason. Once their assignment is done; they leave your life. It has not been easy for me to handle transitions and my therapist is helping me navigate those waters. I always believed that my people would remain with me and close to me; always and forever. Having gone through a painful separation with the death of Norah; my life changed greatly.

Well, I have not been the only one on this journey. My friend Val lost her mum five years ago and she too, was overcome by deep grief that sent her mental health spiraling to the pits. I barely published articles on my blog last year and it looks like Val and I share a few experiences since she too, barely published on her blog as well, in 2021.

She needed to address the pain, disenchantment, anger and other emotions that she was experiencing at the time. Understandably, this resulted in her keeping to herself. Though I tried to reach out to her to no avail over the years, I never gave up on her. I still believed in my heart that Val falls in my “always and forever” category of people. I kept inviting her to my birthday parties year in year out, I would invite her to my place to catch up, but none of my efforts bore fruit until… SHE reached out to me for her birthday! She had never commemorated it (in a big way) since 2019 and my heart exploded with joy when I read her text message.

Val was not only inviting me to her birthday party as a one off stint, but wanted to be intentional in rekindling our once-vibrant relationship.

Val and I ten years ago; circa 2013

I am so happy! Indeed God honoured my desire. I have no words to express my joy!

Val and I two weeks ago.

This has also encouraged me to keep hope alive for a friend of mine who withdrew from me after experiencing grief too. I thought she had locked me out of her life. Although things are still estranged at the moment, I speak forth a resurrection of our friendship. In fact, I believe that we will come back better than before. Bestie for the restie. I speak it and write it forth in Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Some friends don’t help,
but a true friend is closer
    than your own family
.

Proverbs 18:24 CEV

Do you have any areas in your life that you want reborn or resurrected in a similar manner that Jesus did with Lazarus?

Then he told them, “Our friend Lazarus is asleep, and I am going there to wake him up.”

John 11:11 CEV

Or do you have a testimony of how God has restored something that you thought was dead and buried in your life? Please let me know in the comments section below.

PS: I discovered this song that I am currently jamming to on full blast. The beats are quite something – take note of the bass. My regular readers know I’ve a propensity to gravitate to Amapiano but I hope you like it too.
