Hello! Hello!

It’s been a long time coming right? Whew! A baffling two months since I last put up a blog post! Making resolutions is as easy as putting pen to paper but keeping up with those resolutions is the greatest, most important (did I say toughest?) part! That being said, please pardon me for dropping the ball and going silent on you for that long. Am I forgiven?

 

I have definitely missed you and I know you have missed me too so let’s group hug!!

I am currently listening to Entabeni by Spirit of Praise as I am typing out this blog post. Someone needs to teach me Zulu, Tswana, Sotho and Xhosa because my love for South African Gospel music is insatiable!

I aspire to attend a Spirit of Praise concert soon in Jesus’ Name. Having been to South Africa twice (or is it thrice? 🤔), I believe that there is something very special about South Africa that keeps me connected to the place, the people and more so their music.

Secondly, a good number of people have told me that I look South African. Right from when I was in High School, there were some classmates who did not think that I was Kenyan. So where does that place me? An honorary South African perhaps? Or soon to be married to a South African? 😉 [Ahem! Dumi Mkokstad are you reading this?]

Mdumiseni Nzimande, popularly known as Dumi Mkokstad, caught my eye when I first saw him in a Spirit of Praise video. If indeed my dreams of getting married to a South African man are valid, then from a carnal standpoint, Dumi would be it – if I do say so myself. 😎

Let’s look at a few facts here:

Dumi is a worshiper and I’m a worshiper too. He’s South African and I need to learn a language or two from his country… are you seeing where I am heading with this? 😉

Here’s another fascinating phenomena – the unique, outstanding canines in our oral dentition.

Look at our canines… When the scriptures say a tooth for a tooth, is this what it means? 😏

My all-time favourite South African Gospel song is Avuleka Amazulu by the late Vuyo Mokoena and guess who sang a repertoire of the song during the Vuyo Tribute? Your guess is right…. It was Dumi!

The tribute is a mashup of three songs but Dumi just had to be the one to sing my favourite one of them all? Eh! See how this narrative gets juicier the further we move along? 😉

So as Dumi prays for his wife, may God guide him to me …. [clears throat] Sorry, I mean, may God guide him according to His perfect will!😇

Let’s get to the Ntate ke Mang song now…

(Sung in Sotho)

Ntate ke mang ya kang’ ka wena? (Father who is likened to You?) 
O tshwanetse Ke thoriso (You are worthy of all the Praise)

Interestingly, I knew the Joyous Celebration rendition first but when I heard Dumi, I think I liked his version better. 😉

The song starts out softly, with Dumi allowing the audience to sing along from time to time as the choir remains silent and he takes the lead. The tempo of the song during the intro is slow; allowing you to soak in the wonderful aura of the musicality as you meditate on the goodness of the Lord. When you ask yourself, “Who is like the Lord?” and you start to think about all that the Lord has done for you; you can’t help but get emotional. The instrumentals are subtle, allowing the voices to reverberate right through to your spirit. Oh so sweet! There is indeed none like the Lord.

The build up comes in gradually when Dumi ushers in the choir on the 3rd minute into the song. The harmonious blend of the voices in the choir is simply blissful! I love how the richness of the individual voices weave in to form one beautiful sound. The instruments then up the ante to match the gusto of the choir and … Ah! Talk of climax! The sopranos are the highlight at this point! I am a soprano myself and the lovely ladies hit those high notes with such soul and grace; especially when they repeat the Haona tswanang le Wena-aaaa phrase over and over again… Mmmhh! All hail the high voices!

Just when my appetite was whet for more of the song, there is a decrescendo as the song winds down to an end. There is such a powerful move of the Holy Spirit and if you allow yourself to be in tune with the Spirit, this song will minister to you as it ministers unto the Lord.

We cannot worship the Lord in Spirit and in truth until HIS Spirit is resident in us. We, in our carnal capacity, do not know how to worship God. It is the spirit of the Lord that teaches us how to worship because the Holy Spirit is the only person that knows God.

Who can know the things about a man, except a man’s own spirit that is in him? It is the same with God. Who can understand Him except the Holy Spirit?

1 Corinthians 2:11

For us to worship God, we must have a relationship with Him. This relationship is established when we believe in our heart and confess with our mouth that Jesus Christ is Lord.

“If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

At this juncture, I am compelled to ask you dear reader; are you born again? Do you desire to have Christ as Lord and Saviour in your life? If yes, please repeat the prayer below:

Lord Jesus, I heed to your call in my life. I denounce the devil and my evil ways and I choose You to be Lord and Savior in my life. I believe in my heart that You died on the cross to set me free. I believe that You rose again from the dead so that I may have eternal life. I receive the life of Christ in me today. I am saved. I have been set free. I am born again. Jesus is Lord over my life.  Hallelujah!  I am now a child of God. In Jesus’ Name I confess.

Amen.

There you have it! You are a child of God now! It’s as simple as that! 🙂
